Sussex East   brownie guide leader rainbow senior

BP Adventure Canterbury , September 2011

We all met at Hastings station on the Friday evening. Some of us knew a few in the group, either from school or from Guides, and some Guides knew none of the other Guides.

The leaders introduced themselves and we set off to catch the train to Canterbury. We were joined by more Guides at Rye station, so there were now 9 Guides altogether plus three leaders. During the journey we chatted and began to get to know each other.

The journey soon passed and we got ready to get off the train at Canterbury. The train doors opened, a Leader got off – then the train doors shut again – and wouldn’t open! The train then left Canterbury with all of us still on it – except Sarah – the leader who managed to get off! So we had an extra adventure down to Minster and back. Eventually we were reunited with Sarah and we walked through Canterbury to the Youth Hostel.

Once at the Hostel we went to our rooms and made up our beds. For most of us it was the first time that we had stayed in a Youth Hostel, so having made our beds we had a look round before meeting in the members’ kitchen for hot chocolate and biscuits before going to bed.

On Saturday, after a tasty cooked breakfast, we had a discussion about what we had done so far in Guiding and the opportunities that were available to us in Senior Section. We then walked into Canterbury and went to the Canterbury Tales Experience before having free time for shopping and choosing our own lunch.

The time passed by quickly and soon it was time to catch the train back to Hastings. It had been good to meet other Guides and experience somewhere new.
