GUIDES FROM GIRLGUIDING SUSSEX EAST

WOWED BY THE UK'S TOP POP STARS

More than 30,000 music fans – including over 100 Guides from Girlguiding Sussex East - descended on London’s Wembley Arena last ‘Saturday (1/10/2011)’ or ‘Sunday (2/10/2011)’ to see some of music’s top acts perform at Girlguiding UK’s BIG GIG 2011.

Pixie Lott, Dionne Bromfield and Olly Murs were among the stars on show at the music event, which has been held exclusively for guiding members for ten years. The demand for tickets among members was so overwhelming that for the first time three concerts were put on over the weekend.

The event was hosted by super-daring children’s television presenter Helen Skelton, who was suggested by a huge number of girls on Girlguiding UK’s internet forum.

The guides seemed to really like Olly Murs, Ed Sheeran and the Wanted, and all enjoyed the concert they went to either on Saturday afternoon, Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon.

Quotes from girls who went included:

"Ed Sheeran was amazing as he has a really nice voice." Tallulah, aged 11

"I liked Olly Murs and Ed Sheeran," said said Sadie, aged 11. "You got to see loads of famous people and first gig I've been to. It was the biggest gig of big gigs."

Ella, aged 14, said: "Ed Sheeran was the best I liked that it was a really good line up and that it was just for Guides, because it was best to be all there with girls and enjoy it together."

"The atmosphere was really good. Olly Murs was best." said Rebecca, aged 10.

Kirsty, aged 11, said "Olly Murs was my favourite. I can't wait to see him in February."

"It was amazing to think all those thousands of girls were part of Girlguiding - just like us"

" "Just walking into the Arena was mind-blowing - all those people, flashing lights - and the noise - just awesome!"

"It was a brilliant experience, my friends at school were so envious that I was going to see Olly Murs and the Wanted. They didn't think Guides did things like this."

"I've done some great things as a Guide, but this was one of the best.
Thank you Girlguiding UK"

"My friends and I hardly sat down, we danced all through the concert."

"All the girls had such a brilliant time at the Big Gig," added Helen Osborne, Assistant County Commissioner. "It's fantastic that Girlguiding UK put together such an enjoyable and unique 'girls-only' day that's so relevant to what the today are listening to."
