The opportunity to meet The Wanted with Girlguiding UK
I went to the Big Gig!
I went with the rest of the team that were organising Guides Y.E.L.L.: 2011, and we had a debreif meeting the next morning. We had accommodation in Wembly.
We were waiting outside Wembly arena with only 20 mins to go until the show was due to start for the lady who had our tickets. Finally we saw her waving at us from inside and we were quickly ushered in. We were then told that we had backstage VIP passes!!!!!! To get to our very good seats we had to rush along the backstage corridor, past dressing rooms with such stars in them as Ed Sheeran, Eliza Doolittle, Rizzle Kicks and Pixie Lott! After rushing round backstage, saying hi to Dionne Bromfield, and getting a kiss on the cheek from Olly Murs, we were just in time to sit down in the VIP seating area, and get ready for the show.
First up of course was Olly Murs, who was a great favourite of everybody there. As all the acts came out one by one, screams got louder and the floor rumbled, with thousands of Guides stomping their feet, the Wanted appeared from the stage! The guides went wild and everyone was having such a wonderful time.
The amazing pyro shows and loads of confetti flying everywhere put a fantastic finish to a wonderful evening of pop! But the fun wasn't over yet. We eagerly waited to be escorted from our seats and as our friend came to take us out she said "don't scream too loudly, but" she may just beable to take us to meet the wanted. As you can no doubt understand the 4 guides and 4 senior section members and our lead volunteers were thrilled! We mangaged to keep quiet though as we scurried back stage. Suzie asked The wanteds tour manager for a word and then soon after the wanted came out of the Green Room and we were chatting to them about our event, how fantasic the show was and having photos with them!!
When we finally came out of Wembley Arena we headed back to our hotel where we got some nachos and shared our photos with each other. It was such a shame that Guides: Y.E.L.L. 2011 didn't go ahead but there were such great ideas, plans and guides organising it that I am sure something similar will come along soon, so look out for Youth Participation events, as this is definatlely the way forward for Girlguiding UK!
