CONGRATULATIONS SARAH

Sarah Clare, from St Leonards Division, has shown that more and more young women in East Sussex are leading the way after being the third Young Adult Leader this year in Girlguiding Sussex East to achieve Girlguiding UK’s top accolade, the coveted Queen’s Guide Award. Sarah celebrated her achievements locally in St Leonards on Saturday 3rd September where she was joined by friends, family and guiding colleagues, that included Joint County Commissioner Sally Buche.

Sarah is a member of Concordia Senior Section in St Leonards and a leader with 2nd St Leonards Guides. Her Queen’s Guide Achievements included learning to drive; helping at a local nursery and doing a research project on Early Years Education locally, nationally and internationally; spent a week in Chester with the National Scout and Guide Symphony Orchestra, Sarah says: “This was one of the best experiences of my Guiding life; I met some really amazing people and really built on my skill as a violinist.” She also had to plan a trip for a group of three friends to London for four nights on a budget of £100, each pound stood for a year in Guiding; took her Guide Holiday Licence by taking girls from her Guide Unit on a residential to the Isle of Wight and took a central role in Hastings & St Leonards Division Sub Camp at the County’s International Camp in 2010.

Sarah says: “The Queen’s Guide Award and Girlguiding has given me the opportunity to see some amazing places, take young people away on camps and holidays, complete challenges and qualifications, and encouraged me to push past my comfort zone and experience new adventures.”

On behalf of all members in Sussex East – congratulations Sarah on your achievements
